GeForce Fermi heisst jetzt GTX400

Nach langer Wartezeit hat NVIDIA nun auf seiner Facebook-Seite die Namen die ersten Desktopgrafikkarten auf Basis des Fermi-Chips bekannt gegeben: Die GTX480 und GTX470. Wie gewohnt werden diese beiden Karten erstmal das Maximum darstellen das diese Generation zu bieten hat, so wie das auch bei der GTX200er Reihe der Fall war (Release der GTX280 bzw. GTX260 als Erstes).

Manch einer mag sich jetzt zu Recht die Frage stellen, warum auf eimal GTX400? Nun, Nvidia hat sich wohl dazu entschieden die 300er Bezeichnung zu überspringen, möglicherweise um einen wirklichen Meilenstein zu setzen. Die 300er Bezeichnung wird derzeit ja nur bei Low-cost Grafikarten verwendet.

PCGamesHardware spekuliert auf Basis der Unterschiede zw. GTX280 und GTX260 wie die technischen Eckdaten aussehen könnten:

- Preis: 550 gegen 450 Euro
- Shader-Multiprozessoren: 16 gegen 14
- Shader-ALUs: 512 gegen 448
- TMUs: 64 gegen 56
- ROPs: 48 gegen 40
- Speicherbus: 384 gegen 320
- RAM: 1.536 MiB gegen 1.280 MiB

Leider ist ein konkreter Releasetermin nicht genannt worden, doch es wird allgemein vermutet, dass eine Veröffentlichung noch im Q1/2010 stattfinden wird.

After a long time of waiting NVIDIA has finally revealed the names of the first Fermi-based desktop cards on their Facebook page: They're called GTX480 and GTX470. As usual these cards will represent Nvidias maximum of this generation for now, just like it they did it with the GTX200 (Release of the GTX280/GTX260 at first).

Some of you might ask why they call it GTX400. Well, they apparently decided to skip the 300; perhaps to set a real milestone with the new cards, as the term 300 is only used for their low-cost graphic cards at the moment.

PCGamesHardware conjectured about the specifications of the GTX480/470 based on the difference between the old GTX280 and GTX260:

- Price: 550 and 450 Euro
- Shader-Multiprocessors: 16 and 14
- Shader-ALUs: 512 and 448
- TMUs: 64 and 56
- ROPs: 48 and 40
- Memorybus: 384 and 320
- RAM: 1.536 MiB and 1.280 MiB

Unfortunately NVIDIA did not tell us a certain date yet, but it is generally presumed that the release will be in Q1/2010.

AMD macht Gewinne - dank Intel

Große Ausgleichszahlung von Intel hilft AMD beim Sprung aus Verlustzone

AMD hat im vergangenen Quartal endlich die Gewinnzone erreicht, zum ersten Mal seit Herbst 2006. Der Hauptgrund ist die Einmalzahlung von Intel in Höhe von 1,25 Milliarden US-Dollar aus dem außergerichtlichen Vergleich. Dadurch konnte AMD im vierten Quartal einen Nettogewinn von $1,178 Mrd. erreichen, ansonsten wäre doch wieder ein Verlust herausgekommen. Allerdings ist Intel nicht der einzige Grund für das positive Ergebnis, denn AMD konnte seinen Umsatz steigern und einen operativen Gewinn einfahren.

BC2 Amazon Vorbesteller definitiv bei der Beta dabei

Wie amazon.de auf der Produktseite zu Bad Company 2 bekannt gibt wird "[...]Amazon.de in Zusammenarbeit mit EA an der Betaaktion zur PC Edition von Battlefield: Bad Company 2 teilnehmen[...]"(vgl. Link). Das heißt für alle Vorbesteller von amazon.de, dass sie auf jeden Fall bei der Beta dabei sind.

Update 17.01.2010:

So wie es aussieht ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit einen Betakey ohne Vorbestellung zu bekommen auf ein Minimum gesunken, wenn sogar auf der deutschen Battlefield Seite Amazon.de als Mittel zum Zweck angegeben wird. Das Ganze war ja eigentlich schon von vorne heraus klar, nur das es jetzt offiziell ist -  so oder so, letztlich bleibt es jedem selbst überlassen ob er sich darauf einlässt, oder eben nicht.

Des Weiteren findet ihr unten den Umfang der Beta, sowie den Hintergrund zu der Map "Port Valdez" die der Beta-Schauplatz sein wird. Außerdem empfehle ich denen die des Englischen mächtig sind noch das sehr informative Interview auf videogamer.com mit Gordon van Dyke.

Amazon.de participates at the BC2 Beta

Amazon.de will definitely participate at the Bad Company 2 Beta event, this information, announced on the product page of Battlefield Bad Company 2, gives people who preordered the game the chance to join the Beta starting at 28th January.

According to Amazon, further information on how to get your key and so on will follow.

Update 17.01.2010:

It seems now that the chance of getting a beta key without preordering the game has dropped, as even the german Battlefield website points to amazon.de for getting one. Although this fact was clear before, it has become official with this statement - anyway, in the end everyone has to decide for himself whether to preorder or not.
